Today, I have baby chicks in my brooder. Way too many chicks — I had to order a lot for the minimum order, and then they added in some extras. But as my friend says, is there really such a thing as too many chickens? (I knew she was my friend for a reason!)
Baby chicks are so cute to watch. They’re at that age right now where I can just sit by the brooder and watch them scurry around. It’s almost like meditation. It shuts down my mind, brings me into the moment.
And I think that’s important. I mean, I know my mind tends to always race to what’s next. And I already know the stress is coming. It’s closer than I thought, actually, since I’m pretty sure I’m going to need a second brooder when they get bigger. So I’ve already got a to-do list building in my head.
But right now, there are tiny fuzzy chicks doing tiny fuzzy chick things, and that is enough.
Whatever your “baby chicks” are today – that is, the tiny things that bring you joy – I hope you let yourself sit with it for a minute before you move on.
For now, I’ll be happy watching them be baby chicks.
